Large Country Garden September 2006
This large country garden is set behind a traditional stone-built house in a Dales village. It had been underused as it was too remote from the house.

To make the garden more usable, a garden room was constructed, with a hot tub nearby.
July 2007
The garden has been divided into two areas by a dry-stone wall to match the fell walls in the fields beyond, allowing for a more informal area at the far end of the garden.

I designed the garden in a traditional, English country garden style, to give year round interest.

August 2008
The herbaceous perennials have grown quickly, giving the garden a more mature feel in the first couple of years after planting, whilst the slower growing shrubs get established.

This small back yard is behind a traditional cottage in a small town. It was transformed from an unloved area for the wheelie bins into a pleasant, secluded seating area. Raised beds set at an angle make maximum use of this limited space, giving depth to the beds allowing for interesting plant combinations, whilst keeping a large enough paved area for a small table and chairs.

During Construction

Pale coloured Travertine paving and limestone gravel were used to create light in this small front garden which is separated from the road by a high privet hedge.

Before Re-design

This tarmac backyard was given a new lease of life with raised beds, constructed from environmentally friendly green oak sleepers, which are at a height that makes them easier to look after. The beds were filled with small shrubs and perennials to give year round interest and attract wildlife to the garden.
